Ford Motorsport 1993-1997

When i arrived at RAS Sport at the beginning of 1993, the team was located in the south of Belgium( Chatelet ), they were doing one of the last rally's with the Sierra Cosworth and they were starting to build the 1st Ford Escort Cosworth Group A.

I was send to Las Palmas in March 1993 ( Canarias ) to do a rally with a team i did not know, car that nobody knew, and with a driver that had not tested the car, and i even did not speak French ( as that was what they spoke in the south of Belgium ).
So you can imagine i had fun !!

Luckely there was one Belgium that was speaking Dutch and i quickly connected with him and we were in the same service van.
At the same time i was in Canarias there was another mechanic comming from Sweden to work with the team, he also did not speak the language so we were put togeather in a cornet of the workshop as the ( foreign team ), wich was no problem.
The big advantage was that we could speak with our colleges in England ( Ford Motorsport - Boreham ) and we soon were the contact persons between England and Belgium.

We did a lot of Rally's in 1993 with Patrick Snijers and i was also doing the championship of the Canarias islands.
I was also sent for 4 weeks to Libanon to do a rally there, i did not like it much as it was shortly after the war there and Beirout was a big mess.

At the end of 1993 the team was working togeather with ASTRA in italy and they also signed Bruno Thiry to drive in the 1994 world rally championship.
We were send with 4 mechanics to Ford Motorsport in England ( Boreham ) to build the cars for Thiry, we traveled many months between Belgium and England and we started with the Monte Carlo 1994 where Francois Delecour won the Rally.

In 1994 Patrick Snijers won the European Championship.
From 1995 the RAS Sport Team entered togeather with Ford Motorsport the WRC ( under the name RAS-Ford ) and with Bruno Thiry and Francois Delecour as drivers.
The high point should have been a win in Corsica 1995, this turned out to be a desaster to the team and a mistake from the team engineers cost us the Victory.

Also in 1995 Ford entered the Middle East Championship with Abdullah Bakhashab driving a Escort Cosworth Group A.
After the 2nd rally i became in charge of the team togeather with Philippe Bouvier and Roland Fabri, and i spend a lot of time in the Dessert, wich was a fantastic experience.
We won the 1995 Championship with Abdullah.

In 1996 RAS Sport togeather with the Allianz team in France entered the Monte Carlo rally with Partrick Bernardini and we won the Rally !!

At the beginning of 1996 i changed from RAS Sport to work for MLP ( Mike Little Preparations ) and driver Gregoire deMevius with the Belgacom Ford Escort Group A.
We did the 1996 Belgium Championship ( wich he won ) and some rounds of the WRC. In 1997 he changed to the new Ford Escort WRC.

When MPL stopped with the with the Ford Program end of 1997 i also was thinking of stopping with rallying.
I had been everywhere, done almost every rally and seen most of the world.

But ... during my christmas holliday in Portugal i got a call from Marc Duez. He heared that i was not doing anything in 1998 and he was going to start driving with 2 Seat Ibiza Kit car togeather with his wife Florence in Belgium.
So i was invited to come to the Boucle de Spa rally in Februari 1998 and i started to get interest in the Kit-cars.
I always thougt that there was no life after a world rally car but i was wrong, the next team was going to be Seat Sport.
